Pearl River, NY, Kevin Murphy & Margaret Dowling-Murphy, are showcasing their individual and collaborative work in their new exhibit at Nyack Library in Nyack, NY from July through August. Their exhibit, "Synchronicity" showcases their creations blending structured forms with organic, free-flowing elements inspired by nature and intuition.

"We are so honored to share our work in such a vibrant, artistic community like Nyack," Margaret commented explaining that "this exhibit reflects the evolution of our work as we ventured into new mediums and fused our styles. It parallels the synchronicity we have felt in our own lives - those meaningful coincidences and sense of interconnectedness that reassure us that we're exactly where we’re meant to be."

"As we have become more attuned to the synchronicity in our lives, we have tried to let go of control and embrace intuition, both personally and creatively," Kevin added.

Their work reflects a blend of structured forms with organic, free-flowing elements, and though some works may seem unrelated at first glance, a deeper connection runs through them—a common energy and purpose that ties them together. Nature plays a strong role throughout, with elements like earth, fire, water, and air appearing often—each one symbolizing a part of life’s complex balance.

"Much like the phenomena of synchronicity itself, our work invites you to connect in ways that go beyond the visual. We hope that, in these pieces, you will find personal meaning, a spark of recognition, or even a sense of guidance, just as we have while creating them," said Margaret.

The Murphys, founding owners of Murphy Wood Art, had just begun collaborating as the pandemic was unfolding in 2020, merging Kevin’s woodworking skills with Margaret’s artistic background, each adding his/her own style and skill to their body of work, which grew so vast that Margaret spun off her canvas art line in April of this year (DowlingMurphy.Art).

The two celebrated their 5th year in business in March and are marking their 20th wedding anniversary this July. "We been fortunate enough to foster each other's creativity while also building a family and life together. It's not always easy, but it's never dull," commented Kevin.

Margaret, a lifelong art enthusiast and former teacher, creates artwork using a wide range of styles and mediums including oil, acrylic, woodburning, resin, and mixed media.  Often drawing inspiration from nature and the places she has been, she enjoys combining elements of realism and abstraction. As a member of the Arts Council of Rockland (ACOR), Margaret’s work has been featured as part of their Hidden Treasure Galleries, and she has held solo exhibits across Rockland County, NY.

Kevin began woodworking almost 20 years ago, and after a brief hiatus, found creative solace turning salvaged wood from local sources into rustic mountainscapes, custom pieces, and flags. Revitalizing old wood while honoring its history has been central to his creative journey.
