Blauvelt Ornament, The Tunnel

The artwork featured on this ornament, an original line art drawing by Margaret Dowling-Murphy, captures the historic one-way tunnel on Sickletown Road in Blauvelt, a small hamlet of Orangetown, NY. The overpass used to host the Erie Railway and was nearly torn down years ago before being saved.  Those who grew up in the area used to honk twice through what many lovingly knew as the "beep beep" tunnel, before traffic lights were finally installed in this one-way, tight squeeze.
